Rewarding loyalty is spot on

As a marketer in a tight economy, we’re often faced with needing to be even more frugal with clients’ ever-stretched marketing budgets. And frankly, a lot of small business clients have never had a budget that would allow for expensive Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and a system to handle it all.

As a consumer, I loathe dealing with numerous different reward and loyalty programs. And as a marketer, I tend to think many businesses implement a program because they think they should, not because they have any real thought-out business strategy behind it. I’ve been asked to join rewards programs at stores I’ve only been to once and have purchased a $2 item. Am I really one of your top-tier customers that you want to target with your expensive rewards program?

That’s why I’m a fan of SpotOn. As a consumer, I like SpotOn for the convenience. I don’t need to carry lots of different rewards cards or print out deals I’ve found after scouring the internet or keep track of a daily deal offer. If I check into a business, I’m able to see offers on my phone. And in some cases, these are offers that are specifically selected for me based on my previous buying habits and preferences. With 1 million SpotOn users, apparently I’m not the only one who has become a fan.

Where I really benefit is as a Small Business Marketer. SpotOn allows a business owner access to customer data so they can focus on driving repeat traffic and increasing revenue. I like the simplicity of the setup and the ability to change offers on the fly. SpotOn supplies a tablet to place in store(s) for customers to use for check in, which provides me as a Marketer much more information than other check-in services like FourSquare, SCVNGR or Yelp. This lets me easily see who are top customers based on their revenue and number of check ins. I can then customize offers for my most loyal customers or incentivize first time buyers to come back. I can also send a quick email thanking them for their visit and encouraging them to come back. Custom offers can be delivered directly to these customers’ phones or via social media.

So go ahead and download SpotOn from the app store and start using it around town. Feel free to email me, as I’d love to hear from you about some of your favorite spots that are using SpotOn. I personally only need six more spots for a free large combo @KingDavidDogs!
