February 2017, just in time to let our resolutions lapse … that is, if we made resolutions. Personally, I don’t. I’m not into the letdown. Resolutions seem like a to-do list that you only have to do for a little while. Think back, way back, to December 31st and the litany of things that you were going to do, improve or give up for 2017. How are you doing?
Don’t bum out yet. This blog just might encourage you to try again. Many old sayings go something like, “If you fall off the horse, get back on it,” “failure isn’t final,” “Perseverance: if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” Google “try again quotes” and see the multitude of things you could print and post!!
I teach cycle classes at the local YMCA a few days a week. It’s marvelous. I get paid big bucks {insert sarcasm here} to play great music, loudly, while yelling at people to “pick it up,” “drive with your heels,” “engage your core” and “BREATHE!!” Some people have been in my class for years, some are ‘resolutioners.’ I’m trying like mad to get them to fall in love with cycling and a healthy activity.
Thinking about writing a blog for an advertising/marketing/PR agency was a cringe-worthy undertaking for me. And in this instance, writing about something I’m passionate about did not automatically equal writing about my job. I’m a work-to-live type of person and I want to experience as much as I can in this life. And whenever possible, help others enjoy their journey.
So…Cycling. Advertising. Not exactly related, right? Let me bring them together.
It’s about helping others succeed. Sometimes I get to yell and sweat while doing just that. At other times it looks like proofreading, filing invoices, ordering food, cleaning up the kitchen or just doing a plank with other 40-something women for a minute while at the agency, not the YMCA!!! Heck, I’d even walk a marathon to support a friend. It’s about staying positive. Getting engaged. Helping out. What if we all did that? Because in the end, we all can.
Resolutions, goals, dreams or to-do list. Whatever you want to call it, just keep going! Tighten those shoe cages, hold on loosely and just breathe. Enjoy the ride. Make the most of whatever you do.
