Should you buy or should you rent? This is a debated topic in many different areas of our lives. I generally tend to lean toward buying, but Adobe’s new product the Creative Cloud intrigues me. The Creative Cloud is a digital hub that allows you access to download and install every Adobe Creative Suite®6 application as well as providing access to online services for file sharing, collaboration, and publishing. For a monthly fee, you can get Adobe software without the need to pay a significant upfront cost to obtain tools necessary for your work.
Here are just a few of the pros and cons as I see it:
Pros:
1. Low cost of Creative Cloud Membership 2. Gives you more flexibility for projects thanks to having access to more applications 3. No worries about upgrades; they are implemented in the Cloud as soon as they are released 4. Access to Mac OS and Windows versions 5. Ability to pay for software only when it is needed
Cons:
1. You don’t own the software 2. Risk losing access to software if you fail to pay on time or there are any issues with payment 3. Not available in all countries 4. Lack of Adobe touch apps 5. Dependence on Adobe pricing policy
I think this is a great new option. While it may not make sense for an amateur photographer who only uses Photoshop, it is perfect for giving creatives who use multiple Adobe products access to all the latest tools for a reasonable price.
