CVR or Caldwell VanRiper. Whatever you call us, you know us as a full-service agency in the heart of Indiana that delivers the ideas that move people to action, sell product and change perceptions. And we’ve been doing it for more than a century. Funny how when you do things right, you get to keep doing them. So if you want to know what we’ve been up to and why, you’re in the right place.
There’s no I in team, or in CVR. We believe in working together and sharing responsibility, accolades and a couple of cold drinks. Together, we dig in until the work is not only done right, but done well. For us, doing great work and having a good time go hand in hand.
When the savviest of business leaders find themselves bogged down in tired practices, that’s when Aaron’s expertise comes to the rescue. Helping clients see the forest despite the trees is what Aaron loves best. An experienced SEO digital strategist/guru, Aaron splits his time at CVR with Found Search Marketing helping clients break out of their box to discover new ways to have their brand stand out. A Noblesville native and Purdue grad, Aaron brings the theme of learning new ways to do things into his personal life as well, experimenting with roasting coffee, smoking meats and sous-vide, which is French and therefore intimidating and cool at the same time, like Aaron’s mad SEO skills.
While Adam may have had the Hoosier Lottery as an account at his previous position, it was our lucky day when he came to work at CVR. Adam thrives on the personal interaction aspect of his AE role—both externally with clients and internally with colleagues—developing brand and strategy in a collaborative environment. An IU grad and lifelong Hoosier, Adam enjoys hiking, backpacking, good Mexican food and margaritas, which means he fits right in. As a Hoosier, Adam naturally loves basketball, having grown up in the Miller/Jordan, Pacers vs. Knicks years. Adam lives with, but does not own, a boxer pit bull named Princess Peach, who likely deserves a bio all her own.
Anna Arnott brings fresh ideas and out of the box thinking to her clients. Having worked agency and client sides of the marketing coin, Anna has a strong sense of what really builds brands. A graduate of University of Southern Indiana, she studied PR and advertising and took her talents to the transportation industry. At CVR, Anna understands the value of effective online communication and knows how to leverage that into effective audience engagement.
When we found out that Blake can juggle—he used to be able to do it while riding a unicycle—it helped us understand even better why he’s great at his job. Handling multiple projects and critical details is a key component of what Blake does at CVR, and those are only a couple of his many talents. Blake bring significant experience in integrated marketing, trade show marketing and managing large initiatives. A graduate of Oregon State University with a degree in business marketing, Blake enjoys putting a plan together that generates measurable change and helps bring new perspectives to our clients, while also working with other creative individuals to bring clients’ products and services to life. The son of a retired three-star Air Force general, Blake has lived all over the U.S. as well as in Korea and Japan. When he’s not on the golf course, Blake and his wife, Lauren, love to travel—they’ve backpacked through Belize—and try new restaurants. Blake is also a fan of pizza and craft beer and of you parking not super-close to his Tesla.
Brandon has a different way of looking at things. Some call it a gift, we call it, “perspective.” He analyzes every angle, capturing unique moments that bring stories to life. In his time at CVR, Brandon has shot and edited more than 250 videos. He’s driven across Indiana capturing stories for Ivy Tech, flown to Haiti to document service work being done there by Republic Airlines, and walked down the street to the Indiana State House to shoot a commercial with the Governor. Brandon sharpened his focus on filmmaking at Indiana University, and in his free time, Brandon writes, shoots and directs his own films. Most recently, two of his documentaries were shown at the 2018 Indy Film Fest.
Brian is what we like to call a finisher. He’s one of those guys that gets buried in piles of work … and digs his way out. Impossible deadlines? He won’t lose any sleep. No budget? He’ll figure it out. Never been done? Never been done yet. Brian solves problems with hard work and elbow grease. Just like those guys back in the day. During his career, Brian’s been on both sides of the business, design and production. He also likes different kinds of music, from bluegrass to rap.
Ask Cari what she does and she’ll say, “A little bit of everything.” Ask us what Cari does and we’ll say, “Makes a big difference.” Not only that, Cari makes what we do possible. From helping balance the books to making clients in the office feel welcome, Cari is always doing something that matters. But it’s not just what she does, it how she does it. For Cari, it all comes down to treating people the way you want to be treated. And even though that’s not a new idea, it works around here. Cari has recently taken up sailing and can often be found offshore with her husband on the family sailboat.
If you ask Caroline what success looks, she will tell you that she’s a goal-oriented person who likes knowing that she’s reached those goals for herself and her clients. To give you an example of putting that in action, Caroline graduated from Miami of Ohio with a degree in marketing, minors in art history and arts management with the goal of doing marketing for an arts museum. She then landed a job as Marketing Coordinator at Newfields. While there, she worked with the Museum’s ad agency and thought, you know, working for an agency seems interesting; I’d like to try that. Next thing you know, Caroline joined our team, putting those goal-oriented, social media and digital campaign skills to work for our clients. She enjoys being creative but also has a managerial side and likes the challenges that come with every day being different (so boy, has she come to the right place!). An Indianapolis native, Caroline spends as much time as she possibly can with her golden doodle, Otto, and traveling (high points so far: hiking Machu Picchu and visiting Iceland).
If there’s something Chris Shearin knows, it’s motion. And e-motion. And emotion. We’ll explain… A graduate of the DAVE (Digital Animation Visual Effects) School in Orlando, Florida, Chris makes all kinds of things move. During his time at IMS Productions, Chris did broadcast motion design for CBS, ESPN and various racing teams where he brought things that already move fast into a new dimension. Chris has a breadth of product design experience that spans several industries, including his first job out of college where he left his Indy hometown for the California film industry. While there, he worked on a video game trailer that was launched at E3, the world’s premier event for computer and video games. Chris loves animating, giving projects a personality and making clients excited about their deliverables. On the emotion side, Chris and his wife, Carley, have two young sons who keep emotions at full throttle. Chris also has a major passion for barbecuing and is planning to make his own bacon this year (guess what CVR is having for breakfast, folks!) and, on the often-sadder side of the emotional rainbow, Chris is a Cleveland Browns fan.
Given the number of pets at Christa’s house – three dogs, one cat, a turtle, a bearded dragon and a three-legged bunny – we wonder how she has time to get ready to come to work every day (but we’re glad she does!). Christa has close to two decades’ worth of advertising/media experience. The bug first hit her when she was in Ad Club in junior high and continued through her time at Noblesville High School and Ball State; she’s been a commercial/slogan/media buying junkie ever since. Christa brings a love of research and digging into media buys that benefit our clients, zeroing in on specific targets and understanding how to wring the most out of a media budget to get that all-important message to the right audience.
If you’re ever looking for Claire, it’s a good bet that you can find her checking out the latest coffee shop, sipping on a new brew and percolating all kinds of awesome marketing ideas. This coffee-loving, downtown Indy fan earned her BA of Marketing degree from the University of Indianapolis in December 2018. During college, Claire had internships at Klipsch Marketing Advisors, CVR and Delta Faucet. Not only does Claire come with a wealth of experience, but from her intern days here we already know she’s a great fit for our team. Claire measures success for herself by always learning and being challenged, and success with clients as creating relationships that are built on understanding and respect. Besides coffee, she enjoys music, reading, working out at spin class, mac ‘n cheese and donuts more than beer. She also once met the actor Chris Pine and “Yes,” Claire says, “his eyes really are that blue.”
Doug Lewis is a transplant from Normal, IL, which is interesting because there’s nothing normal about his work ethic. Dedicated to delivering the best service, done right, for his accounts and working just as diligently to support his team, Doug brings his expertise to CVR from St. Louis, where he worked on accounts like AT&T and Edward Jones – navigating the tricky waters of B2B and B2C marketing in a fast-paced environment. We talk a lot about boomerangs at CVR, and Doug is an Indianapolis boomerang. He and his wife went to Butler and are rabid Bulldog fans. An avid runner, hiking enthusiast and pet lover, Doug is driven to deliver by deadline, exceed expectations and pursue excellence in a manner that’s anything but normal.
Dustin brings an unmatched talent for helping brands navigate today’s complicated social and digital spaces. An Indianapolis native, Dustin spent his first 13 years in advertising working in Atlanta and Phoenix, where he led social strategy, content development and influencer marketing for brands including Coca-Cola, Nike, MGM Grand, Chick-fil-A and UFC. Today he oversees ideation, content creation and measurement for CVR’s social media clients. His diverse background allows him to think holistically to develop better content and deepen consumer engagement.
To Eric, design isn’t just an art. It’s a recipe. Lucky for you, Eric knows exactly which ingredients to use and when. He knows that beautiful design is worthless without a clear message and strong strategy. Eric mixes the right combination of strategy and design to whip up something clean, engaging and impactful. Hats off to the chef. Eric’s appreciation for the right ingredients doesn’t stop when he leaves the office. We’ve heard he’s quite the chef and makes a mean fish taco. He’s also been known to appreciate the art of brewing. Mostly by trying any craft beer that comes his way.
If there’s a target audience you have in mind, Erin will make sure you market to them. Adding to the long list of proud Butler Bulldogs here at CVR, Erin majored in marketing, minored in French and aims to s’il vous plaît. She loves to travel, meaning she’s a woman of the people who has met plenty of them around the globe. When not perfectly placing media, she enjoys cooking, puzzles and continuing on her epic quest to find the best donut in the world – which we are all too happy to help her with. Born and raised in Aurora, IL, this Blackhawks and Cubs fan has found a kinship with many of the CVR sports fans. If you have a media puzzle that needs solving, Erin can help, because she’s the maestro with the most-o.
For Jack, it’s all about growth, design and how the two go hand-in-hand. While in college, Jack studied abroad in South America, working with design firms in Peru, Brazil and Argentina. Once back stateside, she helped design and build educational neighborhood gardens around Indianapolis that promoted healthy eating habits while teaching kids in the community about the growth and development of food. While wrapping up her Architecture degree at Ball State, she began an internship that turned into a career at Found Search Marketing. There she learned traditional marketing, animation skills, video editing and design for social and digital clients. Fast facts: Jack has been to half of the U.S. National Parks, is nuts about animals and passionate about the environment.
Data drives Jan, pure and simple. Whether she’s interviewing the sales force, sifting through readership data or uncovering what makes your customer tick, Jan sheds new light on the brand and the buying process. Jan has lent her expertise in media, research and online marketing to a broad spectrum of brands that range from professional basketball to pathology. But don’t just take our word for it: Ask her yourself. She promises she won’t track you.
For Jared, another day at the office is never just another day – it’s TODAY. He’s been big city, small town and everywhere in between. From billfolds to topfolds to things that are too big to fold, if you want something that makes a statement, he can deliver. Rumor has it he once convinced a client to stick the back end of an old VW van onto their lobby wall and stick a TV in it. And they did! And it was cool! With humble origins from the Southside of Indianapolis to city slicking in the American south, Jared has returned home and brought his talents with him to CVR.
Jenna Krall believes good design makes a good impression. A University of Indianapolis graduate, Jenna brings a fresh perspective on design to CVR. She’s worked with retail, consumer packaged brands and nonprofit brands including Lids, Endangered Species Chocolate, USATF and Indy Humane. She helps builds a brand’s digital presence with effective design for social and online platforms. Passionate about making sure everything looks just right, Jenna is ready to help increase impressions across a variety of brands.
We don’t just rely on our clients for our emotional well-being and professional reinforcement. Julie takes care of taking care of us. Plus, she’s the one who gets all the resumes first. Which makes her very important to you.
If you’d like to take your talents to New York (Street), you know where to start.
No one can keep the office in order quite like Kara. A seasoned veteran at CVR, Kara has been keeping the billing straight for more than 30 years. She also makes sure the rest of the office stays up to date with time sheets and coordinates with vendors. Kara is that rare individual with both everyday professionalism and outstanding baking skills. For that we might be a little heavier, but we’re also a lot happier. On the weekends, Kara is a member of her church bell choir and enjoys spending time with her family.
Karen’s desk is where the rubber meets the road. She turns ideas into reality and concepts into executions. Somehow she brings it all together in a timely fashion, smartly balancing creative egos, client needs and the budget. Karen takes the “brutal” out of brutal deadlines and the “t” off the word can’t. From Beijing to Bloomington, she makes sure the work is done right…and ends up in the right place…and in the right language. Karen has been helping agencies produce outstanding work for more than 25 years, but some of her best work takes place on behalf of Special Olympics and Stephen Ministries.
Kathy’s career spans marketing, advertising, and brand development in both Chicago and Indianapolis, where she’s led creative teams and clients in producing effective integrated marketing campaigns and engaging content across all platforms – print, digital, email, social media, just to name a few. Kathy’s expertise ranges from QSR to retail, financial to building products, and she loves to jump head-first into projects that have hit a roadblock of some sort, bringing her strategic thinking and keen ability for removing obstacles to that project to keep things moving ahead, full steam. Kathy loves CVR so much that she’s called this place home on three separate occasions. When she’s not at her CVR home, though, you can find her chasing her two boys around, growing the most delicious tomatoes in all of Indiana, and collecting books and recruiting readers for her nonprofit for children, Another Chapter.
Stellar design drives Katie both in her work and her wardrobe. Katie brings her high energy spirit combined with many years of experience to work every day to create the fresh ideas you are looking for. We think Katie has a pretty good eye for design, but don’t take our word for it. Let her show you how she can help your next campaign.
When Katie isn’t at work, she is busy raising two children. Both at the office and at home she lives by the saying, give more and expect less.
We love hiring smart people, and Katie is a shining example of that practice. Valedictorian of her high school, Katie got a scholarship to the University of Evansville where she earned her bachelor’s in graphic design with a minor in mass communication. She has over a decade of agency experience as a designer and production artist and is also an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech, teaching Intro to Computer Graphics. A self-proclaimed problem solver, Katie uses her creativity, education, experience and people skills to approach a project and inform her art. She loves meeting deadlines, playing/not watching sports, spending time with her family and this type of music called lo-fi hip hop, which sounds like something they play at really cool monasteries. Another fun fact about Katie’s head: her hair started turning gray at age 13.
Don’t call Kelly a “do gooder.” Call her a “do better.” That’s what she does. When nonprofit clients have lean budgets, short staffs and long wish lists, Kelly finds a way to get their message out. She loves the game and has found a niche in the nonprofit sector, creating messaging campaigns that change our world, not the bottom line. That’s special. And she’s our specialist. In her spare time (yeah, spare time) you can catch Kelly at the ball diamond watching her two kids participate in the local version of the national pastime.
Kevin helps clients achieve their goals by putting strong, smart teams on the case. And that includes himself. He’s not afraid to roll up his sleeves to uncover the truths to help a brand stand out. He derives this straightforward and fearless approach from his experience guiding strategy in retail, quick-serve restaurants and consumer packaged goods industries where he focused on e-commerce, direct marketing, corporate communications, loyalty marketing and cause marketing. Kevin has also worked both sides of the fence in marketing – as a client and as an agency guy, so he knows what clients expect from their agency. Get in touch and see what this complete agency experience can do for your brand.
Marketing has changed a lot since Kirk first arrived at CVR back in the day. Now in his second tour of duty, it’s remarkable to see how one thing has not, and that’s Kirk’s ability to adapt to the different challenges that today’s marketplace presents. That’s why clients count on him for everything from brand audits and global strategy to new product launches and lead development. Honestly, there is probably not a situation that Kirk and his teams have not faced, so go ahead, throw your biggest challenge his way. And if he hasn’t seen it before, he has the expertise to find a solution. Hey we all know there is no substitute for experience…and there’s no substitute for Kirk Stahl.
Krystin brings a lot to the CVR team, she’s got experience, smarts and all-around talent. Before coming on board with us, she supported internal accounts for the Indianapolis Business Journal and helped run web, social and marketing media for Syntervision. When we say “supported” and “helped” we really mean she rolled up her sleeves and got things done. After growing up in Jamestown, IN she pursued a PR and Advertising degree at the University of Southern Indiana while earning minors in marketing and management. The girl knows her stuff. When not taking care of our clients, Krystin can be found antiquing, gardening (flowers, not veggies), reading mystery/suspense novels or teaching herself to crochet. She’s also a cat person x2. All this and more in one sweet CVR-er.
Don’t give Lori a box of crayons and ask her to draw you a picture, and don’t pick her to be on your Pictionary team, either, not if you want to win. While she can’t draw worth a darn, she can paint you a picture with words. Lori’s been creating engaging content on almost every subject, for almost every medium, and loving every minute of it. She believes in the power of storytelling, no matter the topic. If I can’t get the message across, Lori says, then maybe you really should shoot the messenger. When not silently correcting your grammar, Lori is busy making TOMS and Anthropologie stockholders quietly happy, one purchase at a time.
From managing projects to managing time to managing people, Lynda Jackson has a knack for finding patterns, connecting dots and keeping things on track. Originally from Canada, Lynda brought her talents to CVR along with nearly two decades of experience helping build brands like Walgreens, Jos A. Banks, Goodyear, Microsoft and Chase Bank. Having worked in Toronto, Austin, Texas and Indianapolis, managing up to 300 people and projects at times, she provides a unique perspective that every team deliver the best creative under the tightest timelines.
When it comes to catching your audience on the crowded social media stage, Mary Cate knows what content to place on which channel. With an extensive background supporting the healthcare and agriculture industries, she understands the importance of humanizing the target demographic to make sure messaging resonates and converts views or likes into action. Certified in Google Ads, Google Analytics and Facebook Blueprint, Mary Cate knows the nuances of niche markets while simultaneously reaching a broader market. A proud Arizona State University graduate, she’s got experience from coast-to-coast to help her clients make the most of their digital presence.
Mary keeps the office clicking. From researching to surveying to presentations, she’s always there to lend a hand. It also helps that she’s a MacGyver with office supplies.
Don’t believe us? Ask her how to open a stubborn salsa jar, Staples-style. And see how everyone’s creative at CVR.
Whether the media is social or otherwise, Mary will shepherd your messaging. With a command of media buying, analytics and digital strategy, she brings a crossover expertise that provides the flexibility and open mindedness that brands need to be successful. Mary’s keen understanding of how traditional media touches the target audience on the digital side helps craft effective campaigns that deliver. Even more than talking DMAs and CTRs, Mary enjoys traveling, fencing, skydiving and whitewater rafting (ok, maybe not those last two). She also endorses the use of the phrase “Amn’t I?” in social settings. She’ll be happy to explain why.
Matt believes creativity is not reserved for the creative department…ideas can come from anywhere. So Matt actually listens while working to create the best work possible. Due to his past history as an advertising director, Matt is one of those rare creatives who can actually understand why clients sometimes act the way they do…and has no problem stepping in as client contact when needed. Armed with a degree, 25 years in the industry/business and a glass-half-full mentality, Matt and his team will find a way. Guaranteed. Finally, Matt does not own any mock turtlenecks. He does, however, own plenty of 80s music.
When McKenze joined CVR as an Account Supervisor, it became immediately obvious that she was ready to dive into the deep end of the work pool and take on whatever challenges we sent her way. We shouldn’t have been surprised—McKenze went to Stanford University on a Division I athletic scholarship for diving, was a three-time All American. McKenze has transferred her enthusiasm and work ethic as a successful diver to her career as a marketing professional, having previously worked at Cook Regentec, in sales at the Indianapolis Star’s health care desk and at Williams Randall as an account supervisor. McKenze leads strategic planning and development of CVR clients and nurtures new business partnership opportunities. Describing herself as part cheerleader/part organizer, she enjoys inspiring teams to do their best work as well as identifying needs and opportunities and finding the best solutions. She also loves the music of Michael Jackson and teaching her son his dance moves.
Meg brings an open mind and a love of improv to CVR, her wit and quick thinking sharpened on stages in Bloomington and Chicago. That mind and her uncanny ability to recite obscure movie lines ensure that creative sessions stay fresh and headed in the right direction. Toss Meg an idea and let her run with it, and she’ll be sure to come back with copy that moves readers to action. When she’s not coming up with new ideas for age-old marketing problems, you can find Meg pitching for the CVR kickball team or taste-testing all the new beers from Indy’s craft brewery scene.
Gleaning all possible book-smarts from the rolling hills of West Lafayette, Megan earned her degree from Purdue University in PR and strategic communication. Her knack for crafting messages landed her a spot at Found Search Marketing, where she honed her skills in content creation, digital strategy and search marketing. At CVR, Megan wears many hats. She’s your go-to client expert and continues to refine her skills in creating powerful social media and ad campaigns. While she bleeds Boilermaker black and gold, she also loves craft beer, taking too many pictures and bulldogs (namely her bulldogs Layla and Louie). Originally from Noblesville, she’s lived all over the U.S. and is excited to be back home again, putting her skills to work for you.
When Paul broke into the business, people still read copy. These days, people still read what he writes. Why? Because for Paul, bringing ideas to life through words is more than a job: it’s a craft. A craft that he’s turned into an award-winning career. Paul has written for everything from bourbon to automatic transmissions and has yet to miss a shift when the team stays late to brainstorm. Paul’s ability to step back from an assignment and think about the entire landscape sets him apart from most writers. He can see the forest for the trees. And when he’s not blazing a trail for clients, you can find Paul hitting the trail as a Scout leader for Indy area Boy Scouts.
As a Video Editor at CVR, Samuel Brockhoff helps clients tell their story. At CVR, he collaborates with different teams to deliver compelling visual stories ranging from testimonials to scripted pieces that will resonate with audiences for Bryant Heating & Cooling, Cummins, Ivy Tech Community College and more. A graduate of Valparaiso University, Samuel specializes in finding the unique thread of any story and bringing it to life.
They say the Swiss are neutral, but this one definitely has a bias towards fresh, inspiring design. Sibylle makes perfecting layouts a priority, sweating the details that make a campaign truly unique. So our responsiveness appears effortless.
Feel free to say hi, even if it is just to see if she’ll hook you up with some Toblerone.
Can you see yourself here? CVR is always looking for people who have what it takes to get the job done. Check out our current job openings or send in your portfolio. We’d love to know what you’ve got…and see if you’d fit in. So take a minute and show us why you deserve consideration. It doesn’t cost anything. And you never know, until you know.
Clients trust us with their most valuable resources. Their products. Their messaging. Their customers. Their money. And we don’t take it lightly. We are charged with developing the advertising, logos, marketing and communications that do more than generate business – they create an emotional connection that truly builds a brand.
